At least nine students were hospitalised following a clash between two groups at a private education institute in North-Western Sri Lanka, police and hospital officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Bakmeegolla, Ibbagamuwa Kurunegala some 103 kilometres away from the commercial capital of Colombo on late Monday.
Four female students were among the injured and were treated at a State health facility in the area, they said.
In a separate incident five persons including two students were arrested after they allegedly broke into a ‘smart classroom’ of school and stole a dozen laptops, according to police.
The break in was at the Ariyawansha Maha Vidyalaya, Beruwala some 84 kilometres from Colombo.
The two 16-year-old students had been listed to sit for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination later this year, police said.
They were picked up along with three accomplices while attempting to sell the stolen laptops, police said.
