(COLOMBO) – A 11-Year- old Sri Lankan school boy was killed after a concrete slab crashed on him while he was using the school’s washroom on Thursday, police said yesterday.
They said a seriously injured S. Anishan succumbed while under treatment at a regional Government hospital.
The incident took place at the Gartmore Tamil High School in Maskeliya situated some 150 kilometres from the commercial capital of Colombo.
It was only on November 15 last year that a six-year-old girl was killed and six others injured when a school wall collapsed on them at a State-run school in Wellampitiya in Colombo.
The incident triggered-off a major public outcry and it prompted the authorities to launch an immediate inquiry into the incident that was widely reported in the local media.
Subsequently the education authorities were directed to carry out an on-the-spot report on school buildings that are in a dilapidated condition and forward a report at the earliest.
