(COLOMBO) – A Government operated maternity hospital in Sri Lanka will for the first time allow husbands to remain in the delivery room during the birth of their child, a senior medical specialist at the facility said on Saturday.
The Castle Street Women’s Hospital is the first Government hospital to implement such a program of keeping the father in the delivery room, the hospital’s Director Dr. Ajith Dantanarayana said.
He said that separate rooms have been prepared for each mother in the maternity ward, and it has been revealed that the mother can deliver the baby in a good state of mind through this unique program that allows her husband to stay with her during childbirth.
He added that this program will enable the mother’s pain to be shared between the two, and the relationship between husband and wife, as well as the parent-child relationship, will become stronger.
