(COLOMBO) – An army soldier was killed and nine others injured after a lorry collided with a military cab in Mankulam some 318 kilometres from the commercial capital of Colombo on Friday morning (26), police and hospital officials said.
They said the lorry was en route to northern town of Kilinochchi and the army cab was moving in the opposite direction when the incident took place.
A soldier who suffered life-threatening injuries on impact succumbed while being treated at the Intensive Care at a regional Government hospital, the officials said.
The remaining nine soldiers are also being treated at the same hospital and their conditions were not life threatening, according to the officials.
The driver of the lorry was subsequently arrested in connection with the accident.
