The Lanka Premier League (LPL) has officially announced the immediate termination and withdrawal of franchise rights for the “Dambulla Thunders.”
This decision comes in the wake of legal troubles involving Tamim Rahman, CEO of Imperial Sports Group and owner of the “Dambulla Thunders” franchise.
“Given the current ambiguity over the specific charges against Mr. Rahman, maintaining the integrity and seamless operation of the Lanka Premier League is our priority,” stated the LPL.
The league emphasized, “The withdrawal of these rights is crucial to preserve the values and reputation of the LPL, ensuring all involved uphold the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship.”
LPL management is actively working to manage the impact of this decision and to minimize any disruptions to the forthcoming season.
“The LPL is dedicated to providing an engaging and competitive tournament and will implement all necessary measures to protect the league’s integrity and success,” the statement continued.
“We uphold the highest standards of transparency and professionalism and will continue to support all our teams, players, and fans throughout this period,” said Anil Mohan, chairman of IPG group, the rights holder of the LPL.
