(COLOMBO) – A medical quack in Sri Lanka’s Northern Jaffna Peninsula was arrested in connection with a multi-million rupee fraud where several persons had been taken to the cleaners.
The 29-year-old ethnic Tamil had allegedly cheated wealthy fellow Tamils residing overseas to part with large amounts of cash in exchange for opportunities to invest in the island-nation.
According to police the confidence trickster had cleverly amassed some Rs. 100 million after convincing the unsuspecting victims of parting with their cash.
He was arrested in the northern town of Chunnakam on Monday following a large number of complaints received by the local police from overseas. (COPY ENDS)
