(COLOMBO) – A 13-year-old boy stabbed an eight-year-old boy and later consumed poison in a botched suicide following a dispute over a video game at a home in Hambantota-southern Sri Lanka, police said on Thursday.
Both boys are being treated in different hospitals in the region and their conditions were not listed as serious, according to police and hospital officials.
The two children are neighbours and often share video games on the phone. The dispute between the two broke out after the elder boy sought to watch a different video game which the other refused, according to police.
Thereafter the 13-year-old had stabbed the younger boy in a rage and fled the scene and later consumed poison in a botched suicide bid at a secluded area close to his home.
However he was spotted by a villager who later rushed him to a nearby Government hospital, police said.
The incident took place at Angunakolapellesa some 219 kilometres from the commercial capital of Colombo. (COPY ENDS)
