Bangladesh emerged victorious against Sri Lanka, winning by just two wickets in the T20 World Cup 2024. The match was a rollercoaster ride, characterized by standout performances from key players on both sides.
Bangladesh’s victory was set up by their exceptional bowling performance, particularly by Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain. Rahman’s figures of 3 for 17 and Hossain’s crucial three-wicket haul restricted Sri Lanka to a modest total of 124. Despite a strong start from Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka, who scored 44 off 28 balls, the rest of the Sri Lankan batting lineup struggled against Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start but recovered well, thanks to a crucial partnership between Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy. Hridoy’s aggressive batting, including three sixes off Wanindu Hasaranga, provided the momentum Bangladesh needed. However, a late collapse in their batting lineup led to a tense finish, with Mahmudullah’s experience guiding Bangladesh to victory off the last ball of the 19th over.
Despite the win, Bangladesh will be concerned about their batting performance, which showed signs of vulnerability against Sri Lanka’s bowling attack. However, the victory gives Bangladesh a much-needed boost at the start of their campaign, highlighting their resilience and ability to handle pressure situations.
