Akeal Hosein’s sensational five-wicket haul led the West Indies to a dominant 134-run victory over Uganda in the T20 World Cup. Hosein’s spellbinding performance ripped through Uganda’s batting lineup, leaving them reeling at 39 all out, the joint-lowest total in T20 World Cup history. His control and mastery of swing were on full display, setting the tone for Uganda’s dismal outing.
In challenging batting conditions, Johnson Charles anchored the West Indies’ innings with a composed 44 off 42 balls. Andre Russell’s explosive 30 not out off 17 balls provided the late flourish as the West Indies posted a competitive 173 for 5. Despite Uganda’s spirited efforts in the field, they were unable to contain the West Indies’ batting lineup, which managed to score 45 runs off the last four overs.
Uganda’s batting struggles were evident from the start, with opener Roger Mukasa dismissed for a duck. The middle order failed to offer much resistance, with only one batter reaching double digits. The match highlighted the vast gap in experience and quality between the two sides, with Uganda facing a steep learning curve in international T20 cricket.
The West Indies’ emphatic victory reaffirms their status as a formidable force in T20 cricket. Their depth in talent and ability to dominate in all facets of the game make them a strong contender in the tournament. While Uganda will be disappointed with their performance, they will look to learn from this experience and come back stronger in future matches.
