* India turn their attention to the Super Eight stage (Match 33)
By Dwayne Ferreira
The T20 World Cup 2024 game between India and Canada was called off due to a wet outfield. Although there wasn’t significant rain on the day, just a passing drizzle, the ground at Lauderhill had already taken on enough water on Friday when the USA and Ireland had to settle for a point each, making it still unfit for play.
The umpires conducted two inspections, and the ground staff worked diligently for over three hours. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t convince the officials that the outfield was safe enough to play on.
India now shifts their focus to the Super Eight stage, where they will face Afghanistan on Thursday. For Canada, this marks the end of their campaign. However, it was a memorable run as they upset Ireland and now look forward to an improved chance of making it to the 2026 T20 World Cup. Since the USA is already through, Canada has a stronger chance of qualifying through the Americas regional qualifiers.
Lauderhill is set to host one more match in this T20 World Cup: Ireland vs Pakistan on Sunday. Both teams have already been eliminated from the tournament. There is a forecast for rain in the morning, which may once again affect the cricket.
