Daniil Medvedev has reached his second-successive Wimbledon semifinal by defeating World number one Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five-set match. Medvedev, ranked fifth, outclassed Sinner with a score of 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. This victory allowed Medvedev to avenge his Australian Open final loss to Sinner earlier this year and make a significant statement in the Grand Slam event.
The match was intense and closely contested. Sinner won the first set in a tight tiebreak after saving a set point, but Medvedev quickly responded by taking the second set. Early in the third set, Sinner needed off-court treatment due to illness, yet he managed to push the match into a deciding fifth set after losing the third-set tiebreak. Despite Sinner’s resilience, Medvedev secured an early break in the final set and maintained his lead to claim victory after four hours of play.
This win not only marked Medvedev’s entry into his ninth Grand Slam semifinal but also ended his five-match losing streak against Sinner. The former US Open champion’s perseverance and skill were on full display, highlighting his readiness to compete at the highest level. Medvedev’s performance sets the stage for an exciting semifinal as he continues his pursuit of Wimbledon glory.
