(COLOMBO) – More than 40 persons were injured when a coach overturned near a steep curve in Sri Lanka’s central town of Nuwara-Eliya during the early hours of Thursday, police and hospital officials said.
They said the bus carrying a group of persons on an excursion was travelling to the eastern port city of Trincomalee when the incident took place.
The holiday hot spot of Nuwara Eliya is located some 171 kilometres from the commercial capital of Colombo.
The incident took place around 5am local time in misty conditions, according to the officials.
Initial investigations have revealed that faulty brakes would have led to the incident as the vehicle was navigating a downhill slope.
The injured including the driver were later treated at a regional Government hospital.
