Jasmine Paolini won a thrilling final-set tie-break to secure her place in the Wimbledon final, defeating Donna Vekic in a match that lasted close to three hours. Despite a shaky start on Centre Court, Paolini rallied to keep her hopes alive and eventually claimed victory, showcasing her resilience and determination. The win marks her first appearance in a Wimbledon final and her second Grand Slam final of the year, following her runner-up finish at Roland-Garros last month.
The match began with Vekic taking the early advantage, breaking Paolini in the fifth game of the first set. A powerful cross-court forehand set up three set points for Vekic, who clinched the set with an ace after 35 minutes. Paolini struggled initially but managed to secure a crucial hold at 2-1 in the second set, fending off a break point and sealing the game with an ace. She then displayed brilliant resistance to set up two set points, converting the first with a well-executed forehand to break Vekic’s serve and level the match.
In the deciding set, Vekic responded strongly with an early break when Paolini hit a forehand into the net. However, Paolini fought back fiercely, breaking Vekic’s serve at 3-3 to stay in contention.
