(COLOMBO) – Two persons whom police claim are wanted Sri Lankan criminals were arrested at a safe house in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and brought to the country during the early hours of Thursday, police said.
They said the pair were persons of interest into police investigations related to alleged murder and other criminal activities.
The police did not release any specific charges against the two persons but instead handed them over to intelligence sleuths dealing with organized crime in the country.
The suspects were escorted from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by four police intelligence sleuths.
The two men were identified as K. Dimuthu Chaturanga (26) and Dinesh Sharman (48).
Close to a dozen wanted suspected Sri Lankan criminals have so far been extradited to the country following clandestine investigations.
The country’s Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has repeatedly vowed to extradite wanted Sri Lankan criminals living in foreign countries as a part of a crackdown on the local underworld.
