Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles has issued a stern warning to high-ranking police officers following the controversial interrogation of the tattoo studio owner linked to the murder of businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, known as “Club Wasantha,” in the presence of media personnel. Specifically, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Gayantha Marapana, overseeing the Western Province (South), was among those cautioned by the Minister.
In response, DIG Gayantha Marapana expressed regret to Minister Alles over the incident, acknowledging its mishandling. He assured the Minister that steps would be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Additionally, arrangements have been made, in accordance with a court order, to provide enhanced security for the detained tattoo studio owner. The suspect is currently held in a secure facility outside Colombo.
