Dambulla, July 20, 2024 — The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team achieved a commanding win against Bangladesh in the 4th match of Group B in the Asia Cup 2024, held at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
Bangladesh, having won the toss and chosen to bat first, faced a challenging Sri Lankan bowling attack. They managed to score 111 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nigar Sultana Contributed a valuable 48 runs off 59 balls
Chasing a modest target of 112, Sri Lanka’s opening pair, Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne, provided a solid start. Gunaratne played a pivotal role, scoring 51 costing 48 balls, while Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama contributed crucial runs.
Sri Lanka successfully chased down the target, reaching 112 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 17.1 overs, thereby securing a 7-wicket victory.
This victory marks Sri Lanka’s first win in the Asia Cup 2024 and demonstrates their potential and determination in the tournament. The team’s balanced performance, with both bat and ball, highlights their readiness to compete at the highest level and make a significant impact in the competition.
