Several Tamil political parties and a group of civil society representatives have reached a landmark agreement to nominate a common candidate for the forthcoming Presidential Election. This unified stance aims to strengthen the political influence of the Tamil community and ensure their concerns are adequately represented.
The agreement, signed in Jaffna this morning (22), includes seven Tamil political parties and seven civil society representatives. The key signatories are:
- C. V. Vigneswaran of the Tamil People’s Alliance
- Selvam Adaikkalanathan of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO)
- D. Siddharthan of the People’s Liberation Organisation Tamil Eelam (PLOTE)
- Srikantha of the Tamil National Party
- Suresh Premachandran of the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF)
This collaboration marks a significant step towards political cohesion among Tamil leaders, aimed at addressing critical issues such as devolution of power, human rights, and socio-economic development. The common candidate, once announced, is expected to rally substantial support from the Tamil electorate and play a pivotal role in the upcoming presidential race.
