At a rally in Galle, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Leader of the National People’s Power (NPP), urged Sri Lanka’s Muslim community to collaborate with the NPP in forming a government that earns the trust of all ethnic and religious groups in the country.
Addressing the NPP’s Muslim Brotherhood, Dissanayake emphasized the party’s goal of establishing a united government that transcends ethnic and communal divisions. He stated, “The NPP aims to create a government that has the trust of the Tamil, Muslim, and Sinhala communities. A victory based solely on Sinhala votes is insufficient. Our goal is to develop Sri Lanka with the support of all communities.”
Dissanayake stressed that the NPP’s mission extends beyond merely winning elections. He highlighted the party’s commitment to addressing discrimination and ensuring equitable treatment for all communities. “Our movement does politics in the interest of truth. Whenever any community faced discrimination, our movement stood with them against such discrimination,” he added.
In his speech, Dissanayake also criticized current political figures, specifically targeting President Ranil Wickremesinghe for allegedly going against court verdicts and suggesting his loss of power is imminent. Additionally, he made remarks about Sajith Premadasa, indicating a lack of confidence in his leadership while not elaborating further.
In a related event, Dissanayake launched the AKD website for the NPP leader, which was held virtually. The website aims to enhance the party’s outreach and engagement with the public as it prepares for future political challenges.
