In a historic moment for Sri Lankan sports, 21-year-old badminton player Viren Nettasinghe represented the country at the Paris Olympics today (July 28). Nettasinghe, ranked 72nd in the world, played against Malaysia’s Lee G. Sia, who holds a top 10 ranking.
Despite a strong start, Nettasinghe lost the match with scores of 21-14 and 21-12. Lee G. Sia secured the victory, winning both rounds.
Nettasinghe will return to the court on July 30 at 12 noon for his next Group G match against Spain’s Fablo Abion.
