According to an audit report released by the National Audit Office on July 26, expenditure on the elite security division has surged to 5.833 billion rupees. This figure represents a significant increase from the average annual expenditure of 4.342 billion rupees recorded over the five-year period from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2022.
The audit report highlights that spending on elite security has continued to rise through the period from January 2023 to December 31, 2023. Additionally, the report notes that elite bodyguards have been assigned for extended periods beyond the limits approved by the committee, including for former governors, former MPs, former chief ministers, religious leaders, and other dignitaries.
Furthermore, the report points out that salaries, overtime allowances, expenses, and special allowances for officers associated with this security division are classified as non-reimbursable expenses.
