New Delhi — At least 24 people have been confirmed dead and hundreds are feared trapped following three major landslides that struck Kerala’s Wayanad district within a span of four hours amid relentless heavy rainfall. The landslides, which swept away roads and buried entire areas near Meppadi, have triggered a large-scale rescue operation involving multiple agencies.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other emergency teams are on the ground, working to reach the trapped individuals and provide aid. The challenging conditions are being exacerbated by ongoing heavy rain, which has further complicated rescue efforts.
