Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has indicated that any agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) could be subject to revision under a future government. Premadasa made this statement during a meeting with the newly elected executive committee of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) at his office.
The IMF delegation, led by Senior Mission Chief for Sri Lanka Peter Breuer, recently arrived in the island nation to review the progress made under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, which was approved in March of the previous year. During their visit, the IMF team also engaged in discussions with Premadasa on Wednesday.
Premadasa’s comments highlight ongoing concerns and discussions about Sri Lanka’s economic agreements and commitments with international financial institutions. The Opposition Leader’s statement reflects his position on potential future revisions of the current agreements, suggesting a shift could be on the horizon depending on the outcomes of upcoming political changes.
