In a notable political development, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MP Dayasiri Jayasekera has publicly announced his support for Sajith Premadasa, the candidate from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), in the forthcoming Presidential Election.
At a press conference held in Colombo today (03), Jayasekera detailed that both the SLFP’s Central Committee and Executive Committee had made the decision to back Premadasa and the SJB’s “Samagi Jana Sandhanaya.” This decision underscores a strategic alignment of the SLFP with the SJB’s presidential candidate.
Jayasekera described the move as a “historic decision” for the SLFP. “We have maintained an anti-government stance for a significant period, and this decision reflects our commitment to that position. Our resolution from November 11, 2023, to remain outside the government continues to guide our actions,” he said.
The press conference was attended by key SLFP members, including Thilanga Sumathipala and Rohana Luxman Piyadasa. This endorsement is expected to impact the dynamics of the upcoming presidential race, highlighting a critical alignment between the SLFP and the SJB in the context of Sri Lanka’s political landscape.
