The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will unveil its presidential candidate on Wednesday, August 7. Despite this, many SLPP constituency meetings are passing resolutions in support of incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe for the 2024 election.
State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe has responded to a warning from the party’s General Secretary, Sagara Kariyawasam, about potential disciplinary actions against members who oppose the politburo’s decisions. Semasinghe has asserted that he and his supporters are not bound by the July 29 resolution and are prepared to challenge any punitive measures the party may impose, emphasizing the importance of making the right decisions in the current national context.
