- Post ‘Aragalaya’ Honeymoon comes to an end
Colombo, August 9 – In a spectacular display of judicial decisiveness, the Supreme Court confirmed today that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) decision to expel Ministers Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara is legally sound.
This verdict effectively ousts both Fernando and Nanayakkara from their positions as Members of Parliament and strips them of their current ministerial portfolios.
The court’s three-judge bench, consisting of Justices Vijith Malalgoda, Achala Wengappuli, and Arjuna Obeyesekere, upheld the SJB’s expulsion decision, declaring it lawful.
Both ministers had previously filed separate petitions challenging their expulsion from the party. Faiszer Musthpha PC represented Nanayakkara, Romesh de Silva PC stood for Fernando, while M.A. Sumanthiran PC, Viran Corea PC, Dr. Jayampathy Wickremaratne PC, Counsel Hejaaz Hizbullah, and Sampath Wijewardane defended the SJB leadership.
