President Ranil Wickremesinghe, speaking at the “Kantha Ape Balaya” women’s conference in Colombo today (August 9), emphasized his commitment to safeguarding women’s rights and addressing the nation’s hunger crisis. Running as an independent candidate in the upcoming Presidential Election, Wickremesinghe highlighted his intention to focus on national issues beyond party affiliations.
During the conference, Wickremesinghe reiterated his pledge to ensure that women’s rights are upheld equally to those of men in Sri Lanka.
Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, who also spoke at the event, praised Wickremesinghe’s leadership, contrasting it with the current situation in Bangladesh. She asserted that Sri Lanka has avoided severe crises thanks to Wickremesinghe’s courageous leadership.
Minister Wanniarachchi also announced her decision to support Wickremesinghe’s independent candidacy in the presidential race. This decision came in response to requests from the majority of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) members and supporters in the Ratnapura District.
