As of today (09), the number of candidates for the upcoming presidential election has reached 27. Three additional candidates have deposited their security money, including Priyantha Pushpakumara from the New Samasamaja Party, M. Thilakaraja as an independent candidate, and J.D.K. Wickramaratne from the Janbala Party.
The Election Commission confirmed that these deposits have been made, further expanding the pool of contenders for the presidency.

- Siritunga Jayasuriya and K. Ananda Kularatne from United Socialist Party
- Sarath Manamendra from New Sihala Uruma
- Akmeemana Dayaratne Thero
- Battaramulla Seelaratne Thero
- Sarath Fonseka (independent candidate)
- K.R. Krishan from Arunalu People’s Front

The Election Commission officially announced that the presidential election will be held on September 21.
