COLOMBO (August 10) — The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SL CERT) has initiated an investigation into a fraudulent website that mimics the official Election Commission of Sri Lanka’s site. Senior Information Engineer Charuka Damunupola confirmed that the SL CERT has also filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the matter.
The fake website reportedly resembles the Election Commission’s official platform, raising concerns about potential misinformation or phishing attempts targeting voters.
In related news, the Election Commission announced that the deadline for submitting postal voting applications for the upcoming presidential election has closed as of midnight last night. Originally set to end on August 7, the deadline was extended to accommodate potential postal delays and requests from the public.
