Sanath Jayasuriya, the acting coach of Sri Lanka’s national cricket team, expressed confidence in the team’s performance ahead of their upcoming series against England. Speaking to the media outside the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute this morning, Jayasuriya, who is set to leave for England with the team, emphasized his belief that all players will give their utmost effort in the tournament.
Jayasuriya, who is concluding his tenure as a temporary coach with this series, urged sports fans to show their full support for the cricketers. He described the England tour as his final assignment in his current role and hoped for a successful conclusion to the tournament.
When asked if he might visit the training pitch, Jayasuriya responded that he had not considered it and clarified that his commitment was only for this series. He also confirmed that he had not received any other invitations at this time.
The Sri Lankan squad for the Test series, comprising 18 players, is led by Dhananjaya de Silva. Currently, seven players, including captain Dhananjaya de Silva, Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, and Kasun Rajitha, are already in England for pre-training activities.
The series will consist of three Test matches, with the first match scheduled to begin on August 21 in Manchester. The second Test is set to start on August 29 at Lord’s Stadium, and the third and final Test will commence on September 6 at The Oval in London.
