Colombo, August 11, 2024 — A fire broke out on a ship anchored in the port of Colombo early this morning. The incident was promptly reported to Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva, who has announced that an investigation into the fire has been initiated by the Port Authority.
The fire, which occurred on a vessel from a Geneva-based shipping company, was successfully extinguished by the port’s fire department. The ship had arrived at Colombo from Singapore and was scheduled to unload 995 containers before loading another 880.
The Port Authority is currently assessing the extent of the damage and determining the cause of the fire. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
