On August 14, Dilith Jayaweera, leader of the Mawbima Janata Party (MJP), presided over the ceremony to award appointment letters to the party’s new constituency organizers. The event took place at the MJP head office and marked the formal induction of organizers for several key areas, including Haliela, Haputale, Vialuwa, Norwood, Agarapatana, and Welimada.
During the ceremony, Jayaweera addressed the ongoing political instability, emphasizing that while political leaders frequently change their affiliations, they often fail to maintain a meaningful connection with the public. He criticized the current political landscape, asserting that few local politicians are genuinely engaging with the people on the ground.
Jayaweera remarked, “The leaders are moving from one party to another. Yet, apart from a few local figures, they don’t seem to be effectively interacting with the people.”
In addition to the appointment ceremony, the MJP held its Colombo District Women’s Mobilization event at New City Hall in Colombo. The mobilization aimed to strengthen the party’s grassroots support and engage with women voters across the district.
