The wife of former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte has been remanded until November 7 for alleged possession of an unregistered luxury vehicle.
The Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court issued the remand order after police discovered the vehicle, without a number plate, at her residence in Mirihana. The investigation was launched following a tip-off to Mirihana Police, revealing that the property belonged to Ratwatte’s wife.
During questioning, Ratwatte claimed his late Coordinating Secretary, who recently died by suicide in Kandy, had brought the car to the property without his knowledge, and he denied any awareness of the vehicle’s ownership.
Ratwatte himself was arrested on October 31 related to the incident and remains in remand custody, recently transferred from the Prisons Hospital to the General Hospital, with his custody also set until November 7. It remains uncertain whether his wife will receive similar accommodations in the prison hospital.
