Former Member of Parliament Sujeewa Senasinghe’s residence in Kollupitiya was recently subjected to an unexpected search operation by officers from the Panadura Walana Anti-Corruption Unit. The officers were acting on a court-issued search warrant, investigating possible hidden items associated with LTTE activities, including parts of uniforms and documents related to the organization.
The search was conducted in Senasinghe’s absence, as only a household employee was present at the time. According to reports, the search lasted for approximately two hours, during which the officers also took a statement from the employee.
Following the incident, Senasinghe filed a complaint at the Kurunduwatta Police Station, expressing his concern and requesting verification of the officers’ identities. He questioned whether those who conducted the search were, in fact, police officers, raising further suspicion around the event.
Senasinghe’s concerns reflect heightened sensitivities around police authority and procedures, as searches of this nature are typically conducted under clear and verified protocols. The outcome of his complaint is awaited, with further investigation likely to address the legitimacy of the officers involved in the search.
