Dilith Jayaweera, the prominent Sri Lankan entrepreneur and lawyer, has made a bold pledge during a public meeting in Peliyagoda on November 6, 2024. Addressing his supporters, Jayaweera, who leads the Sarva Jana Balaya, declared that neither he nor his fellow party members will accept any parliamentary salary or privileges if they are elected in the upcoming general election.
In his speech, Jayaweera emphasized the need for change in the political system and reiterated his commitment to serving the people without the perks traditionally granted to parliamentarians. He stated, “We will not take food from the cafeteria. We do not need any of that. We will work for you… without any privileges.”
Jayaweera also proposed a broader reform agenda, highlighting the importance of sending successful entrepreneurs—individuals who have earned their wealth through hard work—to the parliament. He argued that these individuals would be more focused on serving the people, unlike those who may be motivated by personal gain. “If the government cannot provide solutions, we will suggest solutions,” he stated, calling for a radical shift in how the country’s politics operates.
His message resonated with those frustrated by the current political system, offering a vision of integrity and change.
