Former Member of Parliament for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Mr. Namal Rajapaksa, has criticized the National People’s Power (NPP) for threatening the media after their claims were proven false. Speaking at a public meeting in Morawaka, Rajapaksa accused the NPP of resorting to intimidation tactics when their lies are exposed to the public.
Rajapaksa highlighted a series of broken promises made by the current government, emphasizing their contradictions regarding agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He claimed that the government, which initially opposed signing an IMF agreement, went ahead with it without proper consultation or consideration, despite previous assurances. He pointed out the inconsistency, stating that it was impossible for a contract to be signed without discussions beforehand, and criticized the government for continuing to claim they are still negotiating terms with the IMF.
Furthermore, Rajapaksa expressed concern over how the NPP’s leadership is handling the media and public scrutiny. He claimed that when their false statements are proven, they resort to threatening the media. He also described the government’s behavior, likening it to a situation where they publicly scold those enforcing election laws, illustrating what he sees as a lack of accountability.
Rajapaksa’s comments come amid heightened political tensions as the NPF faces increasing criticism over its handling of economic agreements and public promises.
