Minister Vijitha Herath has stated that the government is open to using helicopters when necessary, emphasizing that they are not averse to their use. Speaking in an interview with Neth FM, he clarified that his stance on helicopters has remained consistent, even when he was in opposition.
Herath explained that while he has previously used helicopters in situations like responding to the village tsunami, he takes issue with the extravagant use of aircraft by past administrations. “Under previous governments, the President would travel in one plane, consultations would happen in another helicopter, and security officials would be in a separate aircraft,” he said.
He assured the public that this government would be mindful of such practices, highlighting that no officials would indulge in excessive use of air transport in a similar way.
