Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, representing the National People’s Force (NPF), has made history in the 2024 General Election by securing a record-breaking 655,289 preferential votes from the Colombo district. This achievement marks the highest number of votes ever received by a parliamentary candidate in Sri Lanka’s electoral history.
Dr. Amarasuriya’s victory surpasses the previous record held by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who received 527,364 votes in the 2020 General Election from the Kurunegala district.
