In the last parliamentary election, it can be seen that several popular candidates from the Colombo district lost a seat by a small number of preferential votes.
- Wimal Katipearachchi of the National People’s Power secured 53,161 preferential votes, placing 15th among the Jajaba candidates in Colombo. He was only 1,500 votes short of the 14th position, which would have secured a seat for the National People’s Party.
- Among the other leading NPP candidates, Vrai Balthazar secured 18th position with 44,633 votes.
- Eran Wickramaratne from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya camp lost a seat by about 2,600 votes. He finished 5th with 38,837 preferential votes.
- Hirunika Premachandra secured 6th position with 36,139 votes.
- Mano Ganesan of the same group secured 7th position with 19,013 votes.
The candidates from other parties in the district did not secure any seats, as their parties were not able to win any seats from Colombo.
