The information collection process for the first session of Sri Lanka’s 10th Parliament was successfully completed on November 19 and 20, as over 200 Members of Parliament (MPs) gathered at the Parliament complex. This includes both returning MPs and newly elected members, marking an important step as the country prepares for its new legislative term.
The activities were aimed at facilitating the smooth functioning of the upcoming parliamentary sessions. MPs participated in various essential procedures, such as receiving useful documents and information related to their roles, having their photographs taken for parliamentary ID cards, and providing fingerprints for electronic polling systems that will be used during parliamentary votes.
For the first time, the process also included an online system that allowed MPs to input their personal information digitally. This online platform was introduced to streamline the information collection, making it more efficient and accessible for MPs to update their details ahead of the official commencement of the parliamentary sessions.
These preparations are critical to ensure that the 10th Parliament of Sri Lanka operates smoothly from the outset. The event has set the stage for the inaugural session, where the new government will begin its legislative work and address the pressing issues facing the nation. The completion of these tasks signifies readiness for the formal proceedings, including the election of the Speaker, taking the oath of office, and starting the legislative agenda.
