Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar has urged the government to fulfill its election promise of reducing fuel prices by Rs. 50 during the upcoming fuel price revision scheduled for tomorrow.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Opposition Leader’s Office, Marikkar emphasized the growing burden of high fuel prices on ordinary citizens, stating that it is time for the government to deliver on its campaign commitments.
“The people placed their trust in you during the election. One of the key promises was a reduction in fuel prices. Now, with the scheduled price revision tomorrow, we expect the government to reduce prices by Rs. 50 as pledged,” Marikkar said.
The MP highlighted the critical role of fuel costs in driving up the prices of essential goods and services. “Fuel prices affect everything—from transportation costs to food prices. Reducing them will bring much-needed relief to the public,” he added.
Marikkar also reminded the government that citizens elected representatives to Parliament to address pressing issues, particularly economic challenges. “I am here to represent the voices of the people. It is my duty to ensure that their concerns are heard, and this is a pressing concern,” he concluded.
All eyes are now on the government’s decision, as the public anticipates whether the promised reduction will be implemented during the upcoming revision.
