Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake emphasized the significance of India’s Adani Group commencing operations at the Colombo Port. Speaking to the media during an observation tour of the port, the Minister underlined the economic benefits that this collaboration would bring to Sri Lanka, including revenue generation for the Ports Authority.
Ratnayake clarified that there are no plans to privatize the Colombo Port. Instead, he highlighted a strategy of collaboration with private sector entities to enhance the port’s operational efficiency and overall development.
“This partnership with Adani is a critical step forward for Sri Lanka’s economy,” the Minister said. “While the port remains under state ownership, strategic collaborations like these are essential for leveraging global expertise and investments.”
The Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the balance between state control and private sector involvement in national infrastructure projects. The Adani Group’s involvement is expected to bolster Colombo Port’s capacity and competitiveness in the region.
