Thushara Jayaratne, a key figure in the ongoing controversy surrounding Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa’s law degree, has accused the MP of fraudulently sitting for the law examination at the Law School. In a video posted online, Jayaratne, who is currently residing abroad, revealed his intention to return to Sri Lanka to act as a key witness in a formal complaint regarding the alleged fraud.
Jayaratne further emphasized that he had shared crucial information with Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, confirming that all the details provided were true and substantiated. He expressed frustration that his previous complaints to successive governments had gone unnoticed and unresolved, adding that his efforts to address the issue had been ignored.
The allegation, if proven, could have serious legal and political implications for Rajapaksa, who has been a prominent figure in Sri Lankan politics. Jayaratne’s decision to step forward and offer himself as a witness is expected to bring additional attention to the case, which has already sparked public interest and debate over the integrity of academic qualifications in the political sphere.
