In an extraordinary move, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued a gazette notification summoning the armed forces to several regions across the country in accordance with the powers vested in the President under the Public Security Ordinance. The order, effective from today (27), is intended to maintain public order in the designated areas.
The areas under this order include several administrative districts, along with adjacent local waters. The affected regions are as follows:
- Colombo Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Gampaha Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Kalutara Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Kandy Administrative District
- Matale Administrative District
- Nuwara Eliya Administrative District
- Galle Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Matara Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Hambantota Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Jaffna Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Kilinochchi Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Mannar Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Vavuniya Administrative District
- Mullathivu Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
- Batticaloa Administrative District and its adjacent local waters
