The Sri Lanka Muslim Association of California (SLMAC) has made a generous donation of Rs. 1,015,542.50 to the CCC House in Maharagama, Sri Lanka. The cheque was officially handed over by Mrs. Aloma Sourjah, wife of SLMAC President Rohan Sourjah, and Mrs. Minza Sufi Ismail Shariz to CCC House CEO Suresh Mendis. The event was also attended by Mrs. Himali and Mrs. Dulanganie Jayatilleke, CCC Line Senior Trainer.
The CCC House is a fully operational transit home with over 200 beds, providing accommodation and care for cancer outpatients and their carers who travel from all parts of the country to receive treatment at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). It is the largest facility of its kind in Sri Lanka, supporting both children and adults battling cancer.
A Year of Care and Support
The SLMAC donation will maintain a 35-bed ward at the CCC House for cancer patients and their carers for an entire year.
SLMAC President Rohan Sourjah confirmed that this contribution has been pledged for the next three years, showcasing the association’s ongoing commitment to supporting cancer patients.
Fashion Show Fundraiser
The funds were raised during the Mystique Fusion Fashion Show, organized by the SLMAC Women’s Branch in January 2024. The event was chaired by Mrs. Zahariya Sheriff and Mrs. Farina Hashim and featured choreography by Smitha.
This act of generosity reflects SLMAC’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and improving the lives of those affected by cancer in Sri Lanka.
