The Hajj agreement allowing 3,500 Sri Lankan pilgrims to participate in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage was signed yesterday (11) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The agreement was formalized by Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Hajj, Abdulfatah bin Sulaiman Mashat, and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil.
Bilateral discussions between the two nations focused on enhancing facilities for the pilgrimage and the possibility of increasing the number of pilgrims in the future.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of National Integration Sheikh Munir Mulaffar, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Riyadh Amir Ajwad, Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs M. S. M. Nawaz, and Acting Consul General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah, Mahfuza Lafir, along with other officials.
