Reports have surfaced that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, while being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding a controversial property linked to him, made multiple requests to use the restroom during the proceedings. The inquiry revolved around a luxury bungalow located at Wanaraja Pedesa, Depot Road, Kataragama, which was allegedly constructed using Army soldiers as forced labor on government-reserved land.
The property, which features an artistic design and steps leading directly to the Menik Ganga, has a history fraught with controversy. It was first exposed during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s administration, and journalists who initially investigated the matter faced arrest and torture. The house’s layout has been likened to another luxury residence in Malwana, with a design reportedly inspired by that location.
Sources indicate that the architect behind the construction is Muditha Jayakody, a classmate of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The CID’s investigation into this matter raises questions about the misuse of government resources and forced labor, further spotlighting the contentious legacy of the Rajapaksa administration.
Full details of this incident was published earlier by Colombo Telegraph on the 25th May 2018, with images of the luxury bungalow taken from outside along with a National Water Supply & Drainage Board bill in the name of Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
