A heated debate erupted during the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Working Committee meeting following questions about the party’s position on the contentious bond issue. A member raised concerns about the appointment of an individual to Parliament via the National List who had previously denied any fraud in the bond deal. The query led to intense discussions, with no definitive response provided by party leadership, according to sources.
Adding to the tensions, disagreements also surfaced over claims that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed with minor party leaders during the last election period. Members voiced concerns that these agreements lacked the approval of the party’s decision-making bodies. It was further stated that party leader Sajith Premadasa had not signed any such agreements during election rallies.
The issues highlight internal discord within the SJB as members seek clarity on critical matters affecting the party’s direction and transparency.
