Industry Minister Sunil Handunnetti has stated that the recent power outage was an isolated incident and should not be considered a recurring failure of the electricity system. Addressing concerns raised by the media, he dismissed calls for the Minister of Power and Energy to resign, arguing that such an expectation over a minor issue is unnecessary.
Handunnetti emphasized that experts in the electricity sector, along with the Minister of Power and Energy, have provided a detailed explanation of how the outage occurred. He clarified that the incident was neither deliberate nor the result of government mismanagement.
Reaffirming his stance, the Minister stated that a resignation should not be demanded over an occasional disruption, stressing that the situation had been effectively addressed.
His remarks come amid public frustration over power disruptions, with some questioning the government’s ability to maintain a stable electricity supply. However, Handunnetti maintains that the incident should not be blown out of proportion.
