Following United Petroleum’s sudden withdrawal from Sri Lanka, concerns have emerged about the future of RM Parks, another international fuel retailer operating in the country. However, the company has strongly denied rumors that it intends to cease operations.
Susantha Silva, Managing Director of RM Parks Sri Lanka, reassured shareholders and the public that the company remains committed to continuing its fuel distribution operations in Sri Lanka. He dismissed speculation about a possible exit, questioning who is spreading false information regarding RM Parks’ presence in the market.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), which oversees fuel distribution in Sri Lanka, has also confirmed that it has not received any official notice from RM Parks regarding a potential withdrawal. CPC official D.J.A.S. De Rajakaruna stated that there is no indication of an exit plan, despite ongoing market uncertainty.
These concerns have arisen at a time when Sri Lanka’s fuel sector is undergoing significant changes, particularly after United Petroleum’s abrupt departure in December 2024, just five months after entering the market. RM Parks’ reaffirmation of its commitment suggests that the company intends to remain in Sri Lanka despite industry shifts and speculation.
