Former MP Rajitha Senaratne has stated that a significant number of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs are likely to break away from party leader Sajith Premadasa and form an alliance with the United National Party (UNP). Speaking to the media, Dr. Senaratne noted that there are many members within the SJB who are keen on joining the UNP alliance.
“There are many members of Samagi Jana Balawegaya who are willing to form an alliance with the UNP. They are likely to leave the leader of Samagi Jana Balawegaya and join the alliance,” he said.
Dr. Senaratne emphasized that Sajith Premadasa’s reluctance to support an alliance with the UNP is a key reason behind the MPs’ possible decision to leave.
In response, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara denied claims that Sajith Premadasa was against forming an alliance. “Sajith Premadasa never wanted to stop the dialogue with the UNP. No one has told us to stop the dialogue with the UNP,” he stated, emphasizing that there were no instructions to end discussions with the UNP.
